Number Plates FAQ
Q) What is the value of my number plate?
A) Number plate price can vary depending on each number plate style, its text and each individuals need for that specific plate. Business, custom or name number plates etc, prices can variy greatly on the amount of letters or digits on each plate and how the order of display is presented on the plate. ie: the plate HELLEN will have more value than H3LLEN or SIGNS will be more desirable and valuable than SIGNS 4.
Heritage plates and Q plates are the only Number Plates at this stage with a fairly consistent price index. Heritage and Q plates are valued on the amount of digits on each plate and the number count of those same digits, with the lower digits being higher in value (plates digits from 1 to 999 999, with number 1 being the most valuable number plate available in each Australian state).
Custom plate priceS usually come down to the owners ability to research the current sale market of any similar type number plates, then settle with a reasonable sellable asking price for their number plate. Consideration must also be given to allow room for negotiation between the buyer and seller. Remember not to get caught up in seller hype! some sellers are asking very high prices for their number plates and often wonder why they cannot sell within a week, you must be realistic when applying your selling price, if you intend to sell fast you must have some consideration to your profit margin compared to the original purchasing price.
The easiest method we can suggest for valuing a number plate which is car model specific (ie: FIAT, BEETLE, HSV C4, RR etc) is by asking approximately 5% of the cars total selling value ... ie: a car worth $48,000 then at 5% the plate is worth $2,400 ... a car worth $150,000 the plate would be valued at approx $7,500 ... remember ...
