Event: 2016 Shannons Sydney Autumn Classic Auction & Rare Number Plates
Date: 14 March 2016
Location: 65 Reserve Road, St Leonards, NSW
A whopping $2 million worth of plates changed hands at this auction, with the results led by a string of low 3-digit plates.
Seven plates cracked the six-figure mark, with the highest priced plates being 239 and 254 which each sold for $140,000. Unsurprisingly these were also the lowest two NSW plates to be offered.
The prices were well above the upper price guides across the board, especially for the low 3-digit plates which had an upper guide of $100,000.
In addition to the NSW plates, there were also two 2-digit Qld plates (commonly known as ‘Q Plates’) offered.
Queensland plate prices have been patchy for some years now, so it was always going to be interesting to see how two 2-digit plates would fare being auctioned interstate.
Q73 managed to sell for a respectable $56,000 whilst Q75 was passed in with a high bid around $53,000.

A whopping 26 NSW heritage plates will be offered at this auction, along with two Qld heritage plates.
The list includes fourteen 3-digit plates, eight 4-digit plates, one 5-digit plate and three 6-digit plates.
In addition to the NSW plates, there are also two 2-digit Qld plates (commonly known as ‘Q Plates’).
There are four standout plates, which are the 3-digit plates starting with a 2. Given recent results for Victorian plates, we think these plates should certainly be at the higher end of the guiding range.
