Some 3 digit heritage plates are worth more than others.
For example nice round numbers like 100, 200, 300 etc will always attract a big premium.
Plates with three of the same number, often referred to as repeating triples, are also highly sought-after.
Below these sit the plates which match up to model number of prestige cars, and they come no more prestige than Ferrari…
The 599 plate was always a nice plate, but when Ferrari released the 599 GTB it instantly became far more valuable and desirable.
In 2010 this exact plate was auctioned by Shannons and sold for an impressive $94,000, which is more than twice the amount that other similar 3 digit plates would sell for.
The plate had previously appeared on a Maserati Quattroporte and a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, and in 2015 we finally saw the plate on the car it was always destined for – a Ferrari 599 GTO.

“A mate of mine got carried away and paid way too much for ‘599‘. Bought it for his brother who has a 599; but he should have checked first because his brother is happy with the 2 digit he has on the car. The ‘599’ plate now sits behind the bar at Zagames looking for a new home.”

“Top money paid in August was for two plates with special Ferrari significance. The right-to-display plate 599 sold for $94,000, no doubt to an owner of Ferrari’s 599 GTB Fiorano. The other significant Ferrari plate was 412, which went for $65,000.”
