My question in the lead up to this auction was whether or not the extraordinarily high pricing from the previous auction could be maintained.
The answer – a massive yes.
Thirteen Victorian heritage plates were offered at this auction, including six 3-digit plates, four 4-digit plates and three 5-digit plates.
For the first time in Victorian auction history, every 3-digit plate cracked six-figures, with the highlight being 303 which sold for $203,000 after just 4 bids.
The second highest priced plate was 812, which sold for $166,000. The reason for the premium over other lower numbers came down to it being the latest Ferrari model number.

Pre-auction commentary and price guides
Thirteen Victorian heritage plates will be offered at this auction, including six 3-digit plates, four 4-digit plates and three 5-digit plates.
The last Victorian auction saw prices drastically higher than normal for random 3-digit plates, with plates in the 4xx and 5xx range selling for over $100,000. It will be very interesting to see if this level of pricing can be maintained.
One plate that will have no problem reaching six-figures is 303. Being a low number, as well as an attractive patern, means a strong price is guaranteed.
This plate is being offered by a private seller, and not by VicRoads as is the case with the majority of plates offered at Shannons auctions.
Another 3-digit which should manage a strong premium is 812. Presumably it is no coincidence that this plate is being released following the recent announcement of the new Ferrari 812 Superfast.
Ferrari model numbers have proven to add strong premiums to 3-digit heritage plates in the past, and this one should be no different.
