Event: 2017 Shannons Melbourne Autumn Classic Auction
Date: 8 May 2017 @ 7pm
Location: 40 Corporate Drive, Heatherton, Victoria
Thirteen Victorian heritage plates were offered at this auction, with all selling under the hammer on the night.
The standout plate was always going to be 282, and it didn’t disappoint, selling for $170,000.
This is a record price for a 2xx plate at auction, and it’s no surprise given the quality of the number. It benefits from symmetry, a pair of 8s and a low number overall.
The closest recent sale to this was 230, which sold for an impressive $130,000 at auction last year.
8885 was the highlight for the 4-digit plates, reaching a strong $49,000. 4666 wasn’t far behind at $46,000.
Of the 5-digit plates 66999 did very well, selling for $30,000. This would be amongst the top few 5-digit sales at auction.
