Event: 2017 Shannons Sydney Summer Classic Auction & Rare Number Plates
Date: Monday 6 February 2017
Location: 65 Reserve Road, St Leonards, NSW.
Over $2 million worth of NSW heritage plates sold at last night’s huge Shannons auction, when 30 plates went under the hammer.
Predictably the lowest number fetched the highest price, with 243 selling for $142,000. Close behind was 260 at $130,000.
Overall five of the 3-digit plates cracked six-figure prices, and another few were not far off.
I had expected the two Ferrari plates to sell for more, however they seemed to attract no premium at all with 430 and 550 both selling for $92,000 each. Perhaps both models are no longer in the sweet spot for people spending $100k+ on a number plate?
As expect the 4-digit year plates did well, with the current year 2017 topping the list at $75,000.
80008 did very well to reach $66,000, which is a very impressive price for a 5-digit plate.

The original price guides and pre-auction commentary can be found below.
A massive thirty NSW heritage plates will be offered at this auction, including seventeen 3-digit plates, six 4-digit plates and seven 5-digit plates.
The selection of 3-digit plates is fairly impressive, with some nice low numbers (243 and 260 in particular) as well as two Ferrari model plates, 430 and 550.
In the 4-digit range there are three year plates, 2012, 2017 and 2018, which generally tend to do well. In the 5-digit range the standout is 80008 which should do well.
The price guides for each plate are detailed below, and the final results will be posted after the auction.
